The Betty White Collection

The discs and case are in good condition. Region free, black & white. 683904524256 2011 Mill Creek Entertainment. 40 episodes on 4 discs. Life With Elizabeth and Date With The Angels. It's her earlier work. See her Golden Girls DVDs. She did an episode of SNL. She is still around today. NTSC full screen. The biographies of the golden era celebs are fascinating. The DVD was posted from USA. Took a while to get here. Filmed in front of a studio audience. The show had won her first Emmy. 1st episode Elizabeth is at home miserable. Her husband gets home and must listen to her problems. There is the narrator Jack Narz introducing each scene. Next we have Elizabeth come back from a date with Alvin. This was filmed in the 1950s. I enjoyed looking at the Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy DVDs. I also recommend Mata Hari starring Greta Garbo. Life With Elizabeth is a sitcom. A different story each time. Regular cast members. Hasn't been remastered. Grainy footage. Episodes are short. A talented comic actress. Del Moore plays Alvin. This won't be to everyone's taste. Not really laugh out loud funny. It was the by product of it's era. The housewife would've done as she was told. The narrator always asks "Elizabeth are you ashamed?" What is that about? Good timing. The hypnosis part where Alvin is a lighthouse was original but weird. I think it was a weekly show. There is also a documentary on the DVD. I'm selling this on Ebay. Shot in one take. The scene with the debt collection letter was sinister. Some of the jokes are shit, that's Americans for you. The trousers are high. Alvin's tie was tucked into his trousers. The audience are laughing at anything. Charlotte Lawrence plays a few characters with a strange accent. Often hilarity ensues due to misunderstandings. It also got me thinking about racial segregation and white america was looking perfect but for the black community it was not. I'm not really concentrating on certain scenes. Just fiddling with my phone. The editing is buggered as it is old footage. One episode the couple are looking at a tv. There is a live telecast. Something weird about the tv set. Elizabeth laughs at her own jokes. The scenes mostly end with the characters argueing then the narrator stops them.

The writer was male. The doting housewife doing the cleaning, cooking, ironing, getting the husbands things ready, doing as he says. Modern feminists would not like this. I'm glad things have changed. There was recently a celebrity death hoax, which I think is vile. Now watching black and white 1957 sitcom Date With The Angels. Another husband Gus and wife Vicky. Canned laughter/studio audience. As the opening credits play. The sponsors are given a mention, Plymouth cars. Merv is his neighbour, we also meet his lover Cassie Murphy. Bill Williams is a regular. The couple had been arguing with Mr Simmons and Mr Finlay. Vicky and Gus Angel must play peace keeper. These shows will be new to my generation and younger folk. Merv reminds me of Fred Flinstone. Simmons is grey, old and balding. His son Finlay is bald with dark hair. Wears glasses. He is a professor of psychology. Both are well dressed gentlemen. Merv is middle aged with stocky build. Cassie is a confident woman with dark hair. Unsure if there may have been previous episodes. Gus's boss has come to dinner. There is a good discussion about sexism. I didn't really think much to this episode. Betty White introduces each episode. George Tibbles is the writer and producer of both shows. In one episode nephew Wheeler comes to stay. He's from the countryside. Odd looking, an idiot at times. Good acting from all the cast. The Angels go to the circus. There's a nice scene with the fortune teller. The listing goes live soon. Why not have a look at other listings. An african american waiter on the train. He is also an actor ofcourse. He was not credited. I searched and found the name Gus Constance. One of the place mats fell off the table. Carl happens to admire other women, making Dorothy jealous. An earlier episode featured George a soon to be father, his wife once in labour is quite calm. The nurse on reception is slow and annoying.
